Every year Preston Harriers fell runners get together for the solstice. This is possibly my favourite social run of the year as we take a run up Parlick and across to Fairfield and Paddys Pole in the Trough of Bowland covering about 4 miles so nothing too strenuous. This was ideal too after the Tour de Helvellyn at the weekend, It really helped loosen the legs off.
Once at the Cairn fireworks are set off, mulled wine, mince pies and stollen is had before running back down and going to the pub for dinner and drinks. Fancy dress is optional!
This year I introduced John to the tradition and I decided to take some prosecco up with me….what a way to celebrate the shortest day of the year.
